DEATH AT SEA.
Ship's Surgeon on Steamer Niagara. HEART ATTACK OFF HONOLULU (Received 9.30 a.m.) VANCOUVER, December 29. The arrival of the Union Steam Ship Company's liner Niagara from Sydney and Auckland reveals the death of the ship's surgeon, Dr. J. E. Mason, which took place as the result of a heart attack near Honolulu on December 20. Burial took place at sea. Dr. Mason joined the Union Steamship Company in April last, and served ae ship's surgeon on the Aorangi, Monowai and Niagara. In October last, when the Monowai was on the Vancouver run, he performed several intricate operations for appendicitis when the vessel was at sea and nearing Canada. The Niagara left Auckland on her way from Sydney to Vancouver on December 12.
