KING'S BROADCAST.
"Absent Friends" Around the
World.
QUARTER OF AN HOUR RELAY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1 p.m.) RUGBY, December 22. Prior to a short message which the King is to broadcast to his people throughout the Empire on the afternoon of Christmas Day, there will be a programme to which almost all parts of the Empire will contribute.
From the Mother Country there will go out a description of the actual conditions in London and other parts of the country. Among others to take part will be a miner speaking from the bottom of Bed Was Pit, the deepest mine in Wales, and the lighthousekeeper at Whitley Bay, Northumberland.
The toast, "Absent Friends!" will be passed round the Empire from London to Dublin,'and then on in turn to Bermuda, Ottawa, Wellington, Sydney, Bombay, Capetown and back again to London, encircling the world in a quarter of an hour.
