THEFT OF GAS.
MAN AND WOMAN FINED. "We have had a lot of complaints about the theft of gas lately, and there is always the danger of an explosion or suffocation," said Detective-Sergeant O'Sullivan in the Police Court this morning when Jessie Roslyn Midgley (Mr. Hall Skelton) was charged with the theft of gas and George Harold Little (Mr. Adams) with aiding and abetting. Mr. O'Sullivan said that an inspector had called at the house and found that a pipe had been disconnected and that a piece of rubber tubing had been used. Each accused was fined £3 and was allowed three weeks to pay. It was mentioned by counsel that the man was a relief worker—a boarder in the house—and that the woman had nothing. "She was at death's door for two months," said Mr. Hall Skelton.
