OBITUARY.
MR. C. H. W. LOCK.
A former headmaster of schools, ,llr. Charles Henry Wilson Lock, died on. December 6 at his home, St. Helief s. He had attained the age of 92 years, having been born at Notting Hill, London. He was educated at Rugby, and afterwards was a sub-lieutenant in the 43rd Infantry. He arrived in Auckland in 1865 in the ship King of Italy, and joined the Armed Constabulary, being stationed at Opotiki at the time of the Poverty Bay massacre. After being in the Constabulary for three years at Gisborne, Mr. Lock in 187t> became a school teacher. He was Jieadmaster of schools at Lower Rangitikei, Bulls, Palmerston North, Aramoho and Wanganui. He was also at one time assistant-master at Wanganui Boys High School. Mr. Lock retired, in 1900, and 11 years ago came to live in Auckland. He was a member of the vestry of St. Thomas' Anglican Church, Wellington, and for many years vicars warden at St. Lawrence Church, Aramoho. He is survived by Mrs. Lock and a family.
MR. JAMES K. SIMPSON.
A former superintendent of police, Mr. James Keir Simpson, died at P a '" merston North. He retired two and a half years ago, after 37 years' service. Born at Oamaru, Mr. Simpson joined the Permanent Artillery at Wellington. Afterwards he was at Dunedin, and a mounted constable at Greymouth. Transferred to Kaiapoi in 1900, he was promoted to sergeant eight years_ later, and moved to Auckland. From this city he was sent to Envercargill. In 19-* he was appointed sub-inspector at Christchurch, and two years later moved to Palmerston North as inspector, being promoted to superintendent in 1930. While Mr. Simpson was at Murchison hie house was dynamited one night, but no one was injured. He w survived by Mrs. Simpson, two sons ana two daughters.
