LAST TRIBUTE.

MR. A. B. ROBERTON. LARGELY-ATTENDED FUNERAL WIDE REPRESENTATION. Final 'tributes to the late Mr. A. B. Roberton, who died in a private hospital yesterday morning, were paid at the funeral this afternoon. It was widely representative of the business, church arid civil life of the community. Before the long cortege left for Waikumete Cemetery, a simple, impressive service was conducted by Archbishop Averill and the Rev. P. Houghton at St. Mark's Church, Remuera. The church was filled. The Archbishop and the vicar also officiated at the cemetery. Since 1022 Mr. Roberton had been Auckland Consul for Japan, and the Japanese Consul-General for Australia and Xew Zealand, Mr. Murai, sent the following cablegram:—- • "On behalf of the Japanese Government and myself, I desire to express heartfelt sorrow at the death of Mr. Roberton. Please accept and convey to his family my sineerest condolences." Representation at the funeral included: —

Sir James Gunson, Hon. Sir George Fowlds. The Church of England was widely represented, among those present being the Diocesan Registrar, the Veil. Archdeacon Simkin, Colonel J. E. Barton, Mr. Le Sueur, Mr. J. Hogben and the Rev. Jasper Calder. Maori boys from St. Stephen's College and girls from the Victoria Girls' College were also present. Business Men's Tribute. Reference to the loss the city had sustained, in the death of Mr. A. B. Roberton was made at the meeting of the, council of the Chamber of Commerce this morning. The president, Mr. Harry Turner, said that Mr. Roberton was president of the chambcr in 1905 and was a man if very high standing in the business community.' Members stood in silence out of respect to the former president. .
