NEW WOOL CHEQUE.
MEANS £6,000,000. PRIME MINIS TEWS ESTIMATE. The sensational rise in the price of wool at the Auckland sale should mean from £6,000,000 to £7,000,000 added to New Zealand's wool cheque, stated the Prime' Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, in an interview in Christchurch prior to leaving for Wellington on Monday night. He said that it was generally understood that an increase of Id per IJd in wool represented £1,000,000. He believed that the rise, the effect of which was bound to be reflected right throughout the country, would be maintained at future [sales (states the "Star").
Speaking earlier at Hanmer, Mr. Forbes said: "This is .an indication that some sun is showing through the clouds. Someone said soon after I became Prime Minister that a pretty, heavy cloud had settled upon this country. I cah't admit that I was responsible for that, but I ■have been looking for a little lifting of the: clouds. * "To-day signs that the sun is breaking through and it will be much better for the whole' community."
