MAYOR'S PROPERTY.

REDUCTION IN VALUE. COUNCIL DISSATISFIED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, this day. Dissatisfaction was expressed by councillors at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council in conection with the revaluation by the Assessment Court of property owned by the Mayor, Mr. G. S. Moody. A letter received from the Department's Gisborne office stated that no provision was made for objection by the local authority concerned. Lack of uniformity with surrounding property values • was stated to be the direct result of the statutory right conferred on all property owners over which the i Department had no control.

Referring to the council's contention tliat it had not been advised that there would be a revaluation, this was not consistent with the facts. Mr. Patterson gave figures showing that the valuations of properties over a length of about 100 yards of street varied from £1 a foot to £35. The council decided to write again to the Department and ask for a revaluation.
