LITTLE ONE WINS.
Though easily the smallest of the seven starters in the Trial Hurdles, Mr. A. Kemp's mare, Wee Pat, impressively disposed of her half-dozen opponents and over the final two furlongs she came right away to have a six lengths' advantage at the judge. Thespis and Riotous were the leading pair most of the trip, with Wee Tat just in behind them, and approaching the home turn J. Mcßae slipped Wee Pat through on the fence and gained a clear lead. From that point the issue was never in doubt. Riotous and Thespis battled on, but both were headed in the last bit by the outsider, Carlaris, who finished rather well. Coachman, who was second for half a mile, faded out, while Glenade never threatened clanger. Mahkill was always tailing the field after getting away badly, and finally fell at the last hurdle.
The winner, Wee Pat is owned by the Onehunga sportsman, Mr. A. Kemp. She is by Kibroney out of Bother, a mare bred in Australia and brought to Auckland, where she was trained at Ellerslie by "Kofis" Heaton. She was later on sent to Fiji, where she did some racing before being returned to Auckland.
