A GOOD GALLOPER.

Handling the heavy going in fine style, the Catmint gelding, Puss Moth, won the Shorts Handicap, the first "leg" of the double, with a little in hand. He and Porotiti ran together in the lead, being joined by L'Allegro, who drew the outside, as they swung into the straight, but Puss Moth, on the inside, was just having a shade the best of it. A furlong-from the judge Porotiti could not hold his position, and when L'AJlegro set up a challenge Goldfinch had only to give Puss Moth a kick to draw away and win by two lengths and a half. Puss Moth has a fine turn of speed and is a smart sprinter. Exaggeration, after being well back, early, was finishing on in fourth place. Tradesman, who drew the outside but one, did not get to the leaders at any stage. Pomp failed to run on in the straight, while United and Quietly were always the last pair.
