TENNIS BALL'S TRICK.

A tennis ball plays some queer tricks. One of its idiosyncrasies occurred in the Hornsby district (New South Wales) last week, and (still is the talk of the hardcourt players who witnessed it. The match was in the mid-week women's division between Aloha and Netley. and at a vital stage Mrs. McCann returned a ball from near the baseline. The ball hit. the metal clasp near the bottom of the net. and had so much spin on it that it curled up and appeared as

if it were going to topple over on her opponent's side. Then, to the amazement of all. the ball remained perfectly balanced on top of the net. Despite the fact that the net was quivering, it remained there at least eight seconds, and then toppled over for a winner.
