"TABBY" WYNYARD.
Old-Timer Played Cricket and Rugby for Both Provinces.
Besides going to the United Kingdom with the New Zealand natives' side in 1888, and to Australia with the 1893 All Blacks, W. T. ("Tabby") Wynyard had the unique distinction of representing Auckland and Wellington both at cricket and football. He was also a fine golfer. Owing to a breakdown in health he was unable to get up to Auckland for the jubilee celebrations. Writing to Mr. Harry Frost, chairman of the A.R.F.U., "Tabby" says: "I would give anything to be up there for the Auckland-Wellington match, as the memories it revives take me back to the very first Rugby representative game in Which I played. It was for Auckland against Taranaki on Queen Victoria's Jubilee Day, ISS7. It would have been a fitting finish if only I could have been in my old home town on the present occasion. Anyhow, Harry, my thoughts will be with you all the time.*"
