MORE ATHLETIC TITLES.

Proposal to Hold European Championship Meetings. Outstanding on the full agenda for the meeting of the International Amateur Athletic Federation in" September was the proposal to hold European championships, writes A. C. Bobbins. It can be taken for granted that the proposal will be agreed to, as practically all the European nations desire the meeting, the principal objector being Great Britain. It is suggested that the first meeting, to last three days, shall be held next year in Italy, and then every four years, each nation to be represented by two men only for each event, and points allotted for the first six places. The country holding the meeting is to he responsible for feeding and lodging for one hundred athletes, and 4 per cent of the profits are to be paid over to the International Federation. Quite a sound scheme, bo far as. the majority of our Continental rivals are concerned. Britain's objection is that it will further congest an already (Crowded international programme. In the years when the European championships were to be held, Britain would also have the Empire Games to think about, in addition to International fixtures. Next year, for example, the Empire Games are to be held at the White City in August. We can assume that the European meeting would also be held in that month, and two meetings of this importance within at least a fortnight would be asking too much of our champions, states "Sporting Life" critic. The track season just closed has proved this. Another matter for discussion is the proposal of. France that Jules Ladoumegue, former holder of the world's 1500 metres and mile records, shall, although a professional, be allowed to run a match against Beccali and Jack Lovelock, present holders of the respective records. As I have already pointed out the proposal will alrcost certainly be turned down.
