TE AROHA TOPICS.
HORSES FOB WAIKATO. KING BRIERLY'S PROSPECTS. It is expected that Te Aroha will be well represented at the Waikato meeting this month, the horses nominated being Desert Star, King's Archer, Lagoon, Val Watch, Mungacre, Royal Secret, Hungatoon, Lucullus—Gold Plane gelding, Good Run, Moonfleet, Don't Lap, Sandy Dix, Unoco, King Brierly, Tin Lap and King Mestor. Moonfieet's stable connections were not at all confident of his abUity to win the Hack Handicap at Paeroa, knowing that he would not be likely to secure a good position in the early stages, and at the same time having in mind the good work executed on the local tracks lately by King Mestor. The very vigorous riding of Gouldsbro was to a great extent responsible for the Silverado gelding's brilliant finish. , Unless something happens to change intentions, C. E. Mallowes will take both Don't Lap and Mustang to compete at the Whangarei fixture. Don't Lap is likely to show improved form this season, while Mustang is a better galloper than ho was enabled to demonstrate at Paeroa on the small track. The running of Unoco at Paeroa was somewhat below his usual standard and can be attributed to the fact that before j the meeting he struck himself, and consequently a further schooling run had to be cancelled. In his races he did not exhibit his usual dash, but cannot yet be considered a back number. King Mestor on Saturday showed that his first , day's running at Paeroa was wrong, although the distance was two furlongs longer. J. F. Eva has the King Lu gelding very well and he should at least be a fair winner this season. Mr. 11. Hines' two-year-old, King Brierly, got on the winning list with her second start, and the win was anticipated by his owner. In his work King Brierly shows evidence of developing into a stayer, so should prove a payable proposition. His form at Paeroa goes to show that the stable was unfortunate in losing for this season the services of the Musketoon—Queen Arch two-year-old Nahlin, who, up to a month ago, had been ' showing more speed than King Brierly- ; ■ Mr. A. Swhey's Mungatoon was solidly supported to win the Hack Cup Handicap at the Ohinemiiri meeting, but had an interrupted run * practically throughout, and his chance of victory was early extinguished. He is all the better, however, for his efforts at Paeroa. Mr. A. J.. Monde has named his three-year-old filly by Musketoon —Miss Amans, a sister to, Lady Musk, Sweet Musk. This filly, who for a brief term last season was a member of J. F. Eva's team,- has now been leased to Mr. J. Higgins, of Thames. The defection of Tin Lap from the starting list at Paeroa was duo to the inave receiving a knock on the knee. She will soon be'right again, and her next public appearance will be at Te Rapa this month. Mr. J. Prenter, the Paeroa trainer, is arranging to bring his small team over to Te Aroha, where the training facilities may be more suitable.
