PROVINCIAL NEWS.

TAURANGA. Mrs. J. Moore and son, of Wellington, are spending a holiday in Tauranga and are the guests of Mrs. Nell, Roberts Street. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Haskill, of Auckland, are visiting relatives at Mount Maunganui. In order to raise funds for the Tauranga Aero Club Mrs. McDiannid arranged a bridge evening at her residence on Monday evening. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Bruce Beale, Alan Bradmore, H. Cairns, Carr, Glack'en, L. Greene, E. Knowles, T. H. Hall, H. Lewis, McCara, M. Munroe, Pillans, F. W. Meikle, S. Randell, F. A. Turner, H. Turner, Misses Bull, Sennick, Standcn, Steele, P. Anderson, Salek, B. Turner. The evening was a great success and the sum of £6 6/ was realised. A competition, which was held during the evening, was won by Mrs. F. W. Meikle.

A bridge party was given by Miss Margaret Beale on Wednesday evening. The hostess wore green floral georgette, and amongst the guests were: Misses Dorothy Wills, Kath Baker, Olive Armitage, Marjory Hawke, Dorothy Armitage, Marjory Sanders, and Phyllis Mountfort. WHANGAREI. Mrs. Averill, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Cartridge, spent last week-end at Paihia, and returned to Auckland on Monday. Mrs. Bispham is in Auckland undergoing treatment for her eves.

The bridge party for the Women's Institute held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Marsden Woods proved very enjoyable. The prizes fell to Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Mitchell and Mrs. Gordon Robertson.

„. An enjoyable time was spent at the Whangarei District Hospital on Thursday evening, when the patients were entertained by a visit from Madame Brainsby and party. The programme consisted of solos by Mesdames Dobson, Brainsby and Hugh Carruth; dialogues and recitations, Mrs. Crimp and Miss Lamb; and violin solos by Mr. Pickmere. Mrs. Farley acted as accompanist. Conveyance was arranged by Mrs. Drummond and Mr. W. Crawford.

On Thursday evening the girls of the Y.W.C.A. • entertained >a number of friends to bridge in aid of their coming garden party. The highest score trophy went to Miss McKewan, and the hidden number to Miss Wright. Among those present were: Mesdames Emery, Murray, R. Harrison, Stewart, Even, Surman, Fitzgerald and Walker, and Misses Bain, Pavis, Wright, Barr (2), Thomas, Ross, M. Evans, Pittar, Lemon, Cameron, Jenkins, Ross, Smith and McKewan.
