LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
MEETING- OF COUNCIL, APPEAL PROM CANTERBURY. The council of the New Zealand Rugby Football League met last evening, Mr. Cyril Snedden presiding over a full attendance of members. An appeal by the Canterbury Referees Association against a decision of twelve months' suspension imposed by the pro vincial management upon a New Brighton player, J. Wakefield, for striking a referee, was dealt with, the appellant claiming that for the protection of referees the sentence should have been "life." After perusing the preliminary evidence submitted by the Canterbury League, the council decided to defer further consideration until the receipt of full evidence on behalf of the player. Correspondence in connection with the St. George {Sydney) team's visit was confirmed, and reference made to the entire success of the trip. 1 The Wellington League reported being busy with its reorganisation scheme during the recess.
It was decided to request the Otago League to supply full particulars of its position.
