Melbourne Air Race Final Distance Flight.

FOR N.Z. IN JANUARY,

(Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith states that he will compete in the Melbourne Centenary air race and then renounce long-distance flying. He did not regard flying to New 'Zealand as long-distance flying as the journey could be made by daylight. He hopes to leave for New Zealand early in January.

In the quarter ended September 30 55,1001b of letters were carried by air from Britain, compared with 39,8401b in the corresponding quarter of 1932. Those addressed to India alone totalled 14,0521b, compared with 97081b.
