Australian Subsidies to Wheat
Growers
SALES TAX ON FLOUR MOOTED,
(Received 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, informed a deputation that the Government realised the necessity of assisting the wheat industry, and the imposition of a sales tax on flour might be the best way to help wheatgrowers. No Government could continue granting subsidies year after year to wheat and other industries as had been done in the past, he said.
