TUNNEL OUTLET.
WORK NEARING END.
WELLINGTON DEVIATION.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The end of the Tawa Flat tunnel is now in sight. Except for the levelling of the floor and cleaning up, it is ready for the laying-'of rails and will he completed next week. The total length of the two tunnels is 18,170 ft. The amount of rock excavated is 4G0.000 cubic yards, the quantity of gelignite used 350,0001b, the timber over 5,000,000 super feet, cement 20,000 tons. Of the rock taken out, 120,000 cubic yards were crushed and were used for concrete aggregate, aa well as 35,000 cubic yards of sand. - ■ On completion of the deviation Mr. Langbein, who is in charge, will be transferred to Masterton to supervise highway work as representative of the Wellington district engineer of the Public Works Department.
