ARDUOUS ROAD RACE. Amateur Cycle Contest. — Palmerston to Wellington. (By Telegraph.—Press Association,) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. The annual Palmerston North-Welling-ton amateur cycle road race over a course of 102 miles, began this morning. There is a field of 76 riders and an arduous ride is expected in view of cold, conditions, an intermittent rain and bitter southerly wind being in ' fli e race of the riders for most of the journey. Two of the limit men, Coulter and Flutey, both of Otalci, passed through Levin at 11.28, leading the field. The weather had improved and the scratch men were gaining well.
