COUNT AS WITNESS.

Questioned by. Accused in Reich Fire Trial. POTSDAM POLICE PRESIDENT. (Received 11.30 a.m.) BERLIN, October 20. Count Helldorf, police president of Potsdam, described as an "absolute invention" the story that he had set fire to the Reichstag. He gave evidence that on the night of the fire he called a conference of Storm Troop leaders and ordered the arrest of the leading Communists and Socialists. Herr Torgler embarrassed the Court by asking whether County Helldorf's orders were given in an official or in Storm, Troop capacity. Count Helldorf eventually answered that the orders were given on his own responsibility. Answering a question by' Dimitroff, another of the accused, as to what witness' reason was for believing that Communists and Socialists were concerned, Count Helldorf said he was of opinion that criminal elements were usually Marxist.
