WORK IN HOUSE.
MEMBERS' BILLS. DAY ON CURRENCY. SHORT GAMING DEBATE (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The introduction of the Reserve Bank Bill in the House of Representatives on Thursday : evening took so much of the time which would otherwise have' been available for private members' measures that tlie Government permitted yesterday's sitting to be used by .those who had lost their opportunity. Consequently nearly the. whole day was occupied in a general discussion of monetary subjects after Mr. ft G. J Mason (Labour, Auckland Suburbs) had" moved the second reading of the National Credits and Currency Bill, designed according to its title, to provide foiHtlie creation of credit and currency, > and its distribution direct to the people, and to abolish the necessity for payment of interest as a condition of buying, selling and enjoyment of goods and services. By 37 votes to 27 the House decided that Mr. Mason's scheme was not acceptable for the bill failed to get its second reading. There was a rapid clearing of the Order Paper involving other members' bills, and within 90 minutes of the adjournment time the Gaming Amendment Bill, sponsored by Mr. E. F. Healy (Coalition United, Wairau), was unexpectedly reached. Its opponents had very little trouble to maintain the discussion until it could be "talked out" and Mr. Healy hopefully nominated Wednesday next as the date for resumption Of the debate. It rests with the Government to give further facilities to tho measure, and it may :be taken' as certain that in view of the limited .time given yesterday it will again ward this season.
