CARLTON CLUB.

The opening of the Carlton Bowling Club took place in the presence of a larg number of bowlers and visitors. The grounds were tastefully decorated with flags and the club's social room with the club's colours and baskets of ferns. The president, in his opening remarks, referred to Mr. J. S. Kilgour, one of the oldest members of the club, and first Dominion singles champion, who had been prevented by illness from being present. In view of his 37 years' service to the club as gfreen superintendent they were presenting him with a valuable gold medal, and the president would go to his home later to make the gift. Mr. J. Hoskings, vice-president of the Auckland Bowling Centre, congratulated the club on the successful opening and wished the club every success. A telegram was received from Mr. George Deare, a former Carlton player, congratulating the club on its fortieth anniversary. The jack was thrown by Mrs. Pollard, after which Mr. Joseph Scott, aged 96, an old club member, put up tlie lirst bowl and scored a toucher.
