Peteir Pirate's Surprise—Pays Over a Third of a Century in Jellicoe Handicap—Opening Event to Manna's Son—Great Chum Best Improver—Glandore Returns Double Figures—Electric Handicap to Tactless.
The Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting opened at Alexandra Park to-day, and will be concluded on Monday. The chief event —the Jellicoe Handicap—was won by Peter Pirate, who returned his supporters over a third of a century. Glandore, winner of the Parnell Handicap, also paid over a score. The opening event was won by Manna's Son, who scored impressively by 100 yds, and Great Chum was first home in the Improvers* Handicap. The second leg of the double, the Electric Handicap, was annexed by Tactless, who led from start to finish and won comfortably.
