Divided Field.
Star Artist and Bold Bid Share the Maiden.
As only two horses were withdrawn from the" Maiden Plate, the field was one over the safety number, and 'as a consequence the event -was run in divisions. Aubretia and Lady Pandora were the defections.
When the first section went away Star Artist took charge and led along the back and across the top from-Teddy's Boy, Lady Diana, Alpinus, Supreme Ruler, Miss Lulu, Laudatory and Good Run. At tie straight, entrance Star Artist still held the lead from Teddy's Boy, Lady Diana, Alpinus, Supreme Ruler, Miss Lulu, Good Run and Loombination. Star Arli-st finished on well, despite a challenge by Alpinus, and got the verdict by half a length. Good Run was two lengths and a half further away, and then came MiSs Lulu, Caliente, Lady Diana, Supreme Ruler, Nicodemus and Teddy's Boy. Bold Bid, Morehu arid Expectancy were quickest to move away at the dispatch of the second division, but when the field settled down Expectancy took charge from Morehu, Bold Bid, Jewelled Girdle, C'amella Horn and Keith Hall. Expectancy led across the top and was followed by King Musk, Morehu, Bold Bid, Camella Horn, Tondaleyo and Chief Emerald. The order was very similar at the stranght entrance, where Solo Son" came fast on the outer. In the the deciding line Bold Bid pi evailed and got the verdict by a head from Kin? Musk, who beat Expectancy by a length and a half. Solo Song was fourth, followed by Tondaleyo Morehu, Jewelled Girdle, Chief Emerald and Sir Val.
Pays Over Two Centuries. Mia Stella was the only withdrawal from the Kingsland High-weight, for which Ornamental, Tatyoon and Fie Air were best supported \ersant was entrusted with £4 on the straight-out machine and £17 10/ on the p totalisator. Wee Pat was smartest away from Mahkill, Versant, Free Air, Tatyoon and Valueless. As they laced along the back Versant went to the front from Wee Pat, Mahkill, Fiee Air, Valueless, Tatyoon, Full Measure and Ornamental. The order across the top was much the same, except that Valueless had gone into fourth place. On the turn for home Versant had a slight call over Valueless and Tatyoon, and then came Wee Pat, Full Measure and Cape Fair. Versant stayed on well and got the verdict by two lengths from Tatyoon, who beat Valueless by a neck. Then came Free Air, Cape Fair, Ornamental, Wee Pat, Full Measure and Kawini. The winner paid over two centuries on the straight-out machine and over a score for a place. Favourite's Champion Plate. Psychologist wis not saddled up for the Champion Hack Plate, and when the numbers on the machines were adjusted the public had made Gay Sheila a very warm order on the two issues. Allegretto and Alignment were next best supported. D'Artagnan, British Columbia and Gay Sheila were the first trio out of the barrier, and going along the back British Columbia was in the van from Gay Sheila, D'Artagnan, Grand Sport, Tavern Knight, Moonfleet, Alignment, Delrain and Allegretto. The order across the top was undisturbed, except that Moonfleet had moved one nearer the leader. With heads turned for home the Takanini-trained filly shot to the front from British Columbia, D'Artagnan, Gay Marigold, Grand Sport and Alignment. Over the concluding stages Gay Sheila held her own well and won from D'Artagnan by three-quarters of a length, with Gay Marigold in third berth, a length and a half further away.
