AVONDALE RACES.
KING'S KNAVE TAKES CUP.
A SENSATIONAL DIVIDEND.
VERSANT LIFTS THE HIGH-WEIGHT.
The weather was doubtful and rain fell before the first race on the opening programme this afternoon of the Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting, at which stage the track was in good order. There is a fair attendance. Owing to one over the safety number remaining in the Maiden Plate, the field was split up, Star Artist and Bold Bid winning the divisions. Versant was first home in the Kingsland High-weight from Tatyoon and Valueless. The winner paid over £200. The favourite, Gay Sheila, prevailed in the Champion Hack Plate, in which D'Artagnan and Gay Marigold filled the minor places. King's Knave was victorious in the Cup, being followed home by All Humbug and Desert Star.
