NAPIER "VILLAGE."
SETTLEMENT WORK.
CONTRACT FOR 38 HOUSES. SECTIONS OF FIVE ACRES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, this day. Contracts have been let for the erection of 38 residences on an area of 250 acres, Harbour Board endowment land, for the Napier village settlement, promoted by the Government under the small farms scheme. The sections on which the homes will be erected are approximately live acres each in area. The settlers will be chosen from the ranks of the married men. Much work has already been carried out on the area, including formation of roads, the ploughing of laud, planting of crops, fencing and the sinking of artesian wells. The contract time for the completion of the dwellings, which are to be constructed to the requirements of individual families, is 10 weeks. As a sequel to the letting of contracts and the work promoted by No. 10 schemc, two sawmills in the district have been placed in full-time operation.
