FALSE STATEMENT.
RELIEF WORKER FINED £15. KOT SUPPORTING FAMILY. "I regard this as a serious offence, as, by means of fraud, you have received more than you were entitled to from the public funds," said Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, in fining Jack Morrison Daly £15 on a charge of making a false statement to the Unemployment Board. Mr. J. L. Brownem, Labour inquiry officer, who prosecuted, said in March last Daly signed a form to the effect that his wife and children were dependent upon him. This was not so. His wife was in a sanatorium, and her children were in the care of friends. He had not contributed to his family support for over two years. He had obtained £31 too much as the result of his falso statement. Mr. Aekins, who represented Daly, said defendant had been in trouble before. He had been contributing £1 5/ per week towards the support of his mother.
