CRICKET MATERIAL.
REQUEST FOR LOWER DUTY. (By Telegraph.—l'ress Association > CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. A request that the duty on cricket material be reduced so that the New Zealand price to buyers should be le3s costly, wae made to the Tariff Commission to-day by Mr. Douglas Wanklyn, treasurer to the New Zealand Cricket Council. Cricket material, said Mr. Wanklyn, was imported from England in a finished condition. The charges on bats 1 imported from England, including an ad valorem charge of 10 per cent and a duty of 25 per cent, were so high that a bat costing £1 10/ in England would cost £3 5/ in New Zealand. 1
