GRAFTON BEAT OTAHUHU.

A game effort by Otahuhu to overtake the big score rattled up by Grafton in the first half was the outstanding feature of the pjime between these tw<» teams at the Showgrounds. The effort was a gallant one, but it was unsuccessful, and Grafton won by 24 points to 15. Otahuhu opened the scoring at the start of the game with a try, but a try and a penalty goal quickly put the black and whites iu front, and three more tries, two of which were converted, in the latter half of the spell, gave Grnfton a commanding lead, their opponents adding only three more points to their total. With the score at 19 —6. it did not seem that play in the second half would contain much that was interesting. Otahuhu, however, played dashingly and by means of three unconverted tries, got to within four points of their opponents' total. It was a plucky effort, but try as they would the red anil blacks could not make up the last bit of distance, and right on time Grafton put their win beyond all doubt by adding another converted try. Each side scored five times. Gratton's margin of victory being made up of a penalty goal and three conversions. N. Fraser, who played wing three-quarter for Auddan&Granunaß during the-schools''

championship, made his second appearance in the Oration flve-eigllth line, and played il clever game, making a number of fine openings and penetrating runs. He showed more confidence than on the previous Saturday. I'aton tackled and kicked well, while Fiulay son's line forward play when Otahuhu threatened to get the lead undoubtedly inspired his team. The outstanding figure on the Otahuhu side was Arnold. The veteran, playing behind the serum, made brilliant openings that belied his years, and his long experience was of much value in defence. Hoioski featured in some strong runs which, if he had been supported, would have brought tries. All the regular Otahuhu forwards worked well and for a time they completely dominated the scrums. Unfortunately they were not at full streugtli.
