ONE POINT VICTORY.
A single point gave Manukau the win over Technical Old Boys at the Showgrounds. Both teams fielded a percentage of jumors, and the general standard of play was not high. In the first half Manukau registered two unconverted tries and a penalty goal to give them a nine-point load. The score at the breather did not represent the run of the play, Technical having done rather more attacking than their opponents. The second spell saw the Old Boys make a big effort to regain the lost sround. Two tries, one of which was converted, made the score 9—B, and it was That at tte final whistle. On the run of the play the win might easily have gone the other way. Near the end of the spell a likely Technical attack was pulled up for a pass which was ruled to be forward, although from the stand it did not appear that a breach had beta committed. Berridge was the outstanding back on the Manukau side. On defence he saved his team more often than any other player, r.nd on attack it was he who most often made the openings which threw the Technical defence into confusion. It was one of Berridge's characteristic runs that was responsible for Manukau's first try, scored by Brimble, whose nippiness on attack was the outstanding feature of his play. Wiklund, Johnson and Constable were all good workers in the pack. D. Koane, the Old Boys' full-back, had an off day and at times his handling caused tho greens' supporters much worry. Common was seen in some bright dashes down th» sideline, while Murdoch, in the fivepiKhth line, needed careful watching. The last named frequently opened up the play brilliantly, although there were occasions when he spoilt his good work by a bad pass. Savory, Nelson and Bowling caught the oyc rather more often than the other forwards
