GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

POLLARD UP 10/ A TON. WHEAT MEAL ON MARKET. Local millers have notified an increase of 10/ per ton in the price of pollard, which now stands at £6 10/ at the mill. Merchants are still quoting Australian at £7. but supplies are dwindling, as the market across the Tasinan has been very firm of late and quotations have been too high for fresh ordering. There demand continues good, but it may be affected in the future by a new competitor in the shape of wheat meal, which is available at £7 to £7 5/ per toil. The existence in the South of substantial quantities of undergrade wheat suitable for grinding is the result of this line coming on the market at such a reasonable figure. If the supply can be maintained it is certain to have a good run with poultry keepeis and other stock feeders. Bran is unaltered. Oats and Chaff. There is no change In the market for horse feed, demand being very restricted at late l'ates. The ex store price of Dunns has been lowered to 4/ per bushel. Fowl Wheat. The wheat market is steady, with a good demand, in which ungraded lines take a big share of the business. Maize. The position with regard to maize has shown no variation over the last two months. Merchants report a steady demand at 4/ to 4/2 jjcr bushel, ex store. Potatoes Steady. The potato market is steady, with last week's prices, £5 15/ to £0 per ton, still maintained. Latest quotations from the South indicate a weakness there, but local dealers attach comparatively little impoitance nowadays to the f.o.b. position, as they have been able, for a considerable period, to secure their requirements from consignment stocks on a satisfactory basis. Canadian Onions Arrive. A notable event of the week has been the arrival by the Monowai of the first substantial shipment this season of Canadian onions. About 3000 bags came to hand and these are being Treely dealt in at 14/6 to 15/ per 1001b bag.

Locals are still on the market and a number of Pukekohe lines arc opening up in first-class condition; much better than is usual at this time of year. This is the time when growers who ventured on the Wellington cool storage experiment will be giving attention to the marketing of their produce. With the Canadian onions offering freely at the prices mentioned, and the Vancouver market weak in regard to subsequent orders, It does not appear that the onions from cool storage will bring very high prices. Growers will be fortunate if their enterprise is rewarded by profitable returns, when all expenses are taken into consideration. Wholesala Current Priccs.
