SIGNPOSTING IN THE NORTH.
SOUTH ISLAND BOOKLET.
The. signposting patrol of tlie A.A., after completing a week in North Auckland, lias left tliis week for an extensive tour crecting signs in the eastern portion of tlio Otorohanga County between To Ivawa and Otorohanga. Throughout this area on which a number of new farms are being established, there are numerous good metal roads and several intersections where motorists are continually going astray. Representations were recently made to the association by Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., drawing attention to the need of signposts, but owing to the pressure of signposting business, the work of erection has had [ to bo delayed until the present. Franklin Area.—The president, secretary, members of council and the tourin<r manager of the Automobile Association are visiting Pukckohe this evening for the annual meeting of the Franklin area. The activities of the past year will be outlined, and, in addition, the president will forecast some of the
improvements in service which are being planned for the new year. In addition to the formal business, members will be entertained with musical items and a light supper at the conclusion of the business will enable; the A.A. officers to discuss many matters of mutual interest with the local members.
I New Booklets. —Amongst the new season's publications being prepared by the Automobile Association is a map of the South Island. This is a revision of last season's edition, when the first attempt to produce touring information in map form for this part of New Zealand was attempted in the North.
The new map will show many of the [ road improvements that have been carried out during the past year, and will indicate several new roads which will be available for tourists this summer. The AA. South Island map is not being prepared up to the same standard as the North Island map, but will serve as a touring guide, and will be issued free of charge for North Island motorists visiting the South.
At a recent meeting of the South Island Motor Union, the southern associations decided to produce a map of the South Island. This, no doubt, will embody a vast fund of local information which it is not intended to include in the A.A. publication, and which should fill a long-felt want, particularly fori South Island motorists.
