HORSES AT TAKANINI.

AVONDALE CANDIDATES. FROSPFCTS OF SFEEDMINI TATYOOX GOING ALONG WELL. The Hiker looks very well and is bowlin along with plenty of freedom in his work This gelding is an excellent jumper am should be heard from in future hack hurdl events. He lias been nominated in th Hunters' Hurdles at Cambridge and tin hurdle events at I'aeroa, so tnat he wil have ail opportunity of getting 011 the win niiig list at those meetings. The Hiker', dam, who is not a reg*itered mare, ha. been sent to Surveyor this season. Gay Blonde looks none the worse for hei outings at Alarton and Wanganui and ii appearance has suffered little. She was i little unfortunate in being left at the posl at Alarton and Wanganui, as she finishes on strongly at the end of those races, being:

fourth ami third respectively. She receivec a kick on the inside of her hock, which was considerably enlarged upon her return home, but this has responded well to treatment and it should not affect her chances of taking part in the Avondale Stakes. Greek Gold continues to get through plenty of useful work and should again give a good account of himself when next produced. Speedniint looks really well, having taken no harm from her outings at Alarton and Wanganui and should by 110 means be left out of the Avondale Cup calculations, even when it is generally considered that she is not up to carrying very large imposts. Her recent form is all that could have been asked and, being in a winning vein, she must be considered. If all goes well Speedmint may tackle the New Zealand Cup, and her probable pilot will be W. Broughton. Tatyoon is going along in great style and should be a very tit horse for the highweights at Avondale. Having traversed a mile journey successfully, there is 110 reason why lie should not succeed at ten furlongs, and this type of race should suit him admirably. Tatyoon has been a little disappointing, but will make amends now that the tracks are becoming firmer. Some of the best work of late is that undertaken by Alignment, who, when asked to gallop records some useful efforts. His next outing will be the Champion Hack Plate at Avondale, and he is expected to give an excellent account of himself in this event. High Crest has resumed work after a lct up, due to an injury to her stifle. A very speedy filly when in work previously, the spell has appeared to have improved her. and she may now be ready to undergo another preparation, as she is showing 110 signs of soreness from the injury. Tavern Knight and Cherry King have returned from the Wanganui meeting and are being allotted light work, prep.-.ratoiy to tackling another preparation for the Avondale meeting. Cherry King, form was fairly good 011 the trip, looks to have stood his racing better, while Tavern Knight has lightened up a little. Since racing at Trentham Tavern Knight has i,ot appeared to hold his condition too veil and gives the impression that he may need to be treated carefully. Having had recent racing, his form at the next Avondale meeting should be a reliable guide as to his rnnnhilitips.

Expectancy is thriving and is now looking well. This filly has been responsible for some nice track work of late and promises to do well in maiden company in ti*e near future.

W. H. Patterson had the misfortune to lo«e the services of Gastronomy, who broke down. The Lucullus gelding was successful at the Pakuranga meeting and his future had appeared very hopeful.

Whirl Points was responsible for a nice effort over three furlongs last week, when she ran that distance in a tick over SCs. This was her first gallop over the distance, and slight improvement from now on would make her a prospect in two-year-old races this spring. She is on the small side, but evidently possesses the capabilities, and her future progress will be watched with interest.

Among others getting through serviceable work are Holly Lu, Imperial Prince. Nicodeinus. Gold Pocket. Model Girl. High Tea, Gay Sheila. Diversion, Toplight, Thcspis. Sir Wilionyx, Arch Ruler. Ilaunere, Eldora. Rereatu, the Paper Money—Killena colt, two Valkyrian fillies. Full Measure, Gallant Knight. The Baralong filly, Australian Sun colt and Nun Xicer.
