4 message from La Rochello states that France's "hell ship," Le Martiniere, sailed to-night with a load of 070 caged convicts bound for Devil's Island. It was rumoured that the convicts intended to mutiny prior to embarkation, so they were relieved of their shoes and made to walk in clogs on the quayside, escorted by troops with fixed bayonets. One murderer, Boyer, lias been literally within minutes of death. On the mornin" ho wae due to bo guillotined news came of President Doumer's assassination. Consequently tho new President could not consider a petition tor the commutation of the sentence without a, new trial. Boycr was given the benefit of the doubt and sent to Guiana.
