THE END 3jN SIGHT. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 28. Thomas Moult, writing in the "Daily Telegraph," says cricket followers everywhere are relieved to know that the end of the body-line bowling controversy is definitely in. sight. A meeting of the Marylebone Club committee, and the sub-committee, which considered the subject, has been arranged for October 9, when a conclusive pronouncement will be made, and probably a specific reply, sent to the Australian Board of Control's cable:
No reply has yet been drafted, but it is expected to be wholly assuring from the Australian viewpoint.
"I can say that recent Australian cables have been very helpful," the writer adds. "The Marylebone Club now has received opinions from all the county captains, and almost unanimously they are against the exploitation of the disputed howling."
NEW GOLF RULE.
PLAYING THE WRONG BALL.
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON,. September 28. The new golf rules, approved by St. Andrews committee, provide for a penalty of two strokes instead of disqualification for playing the wrong ball.
This provision has been urged for some time, and the need for it has been exemplified by incidents in recent national championship matches in U.S.A. and England.
GOLF TOUR PROJECTED.
AMERICANS FOR DOMINION.
(Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Cammeray Club's golf professional, Archie Keano, has received a cable from Joe Kirkwood (formerly the Australian golf champion) stating definitely that he and Gene Sarazen have decided to tour Australia in February and March of next year. Keane has been deputed to arrange a schedule for Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.
FOOTBALL TEST MATCH.
ENGLISH LEAGUE TEAM. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 28. England's team for the first Rugby League Test against the Australian team at Manchester on October 7 is:—J. In the cup match series yesterday Hull beat Bradford 20—12.
