MR. NORMAN McKENZIE.
The death occurred at his Residence in Whangarei this morning- of Mr. Norman MeKenzie, aged 82. He was born in Nova Scotia, and . accompanied his parents to New Zealand- on' the cutter Spray. The family were among the first settlers in the Kauri district about 1859. Mr. McKenzie was chairman of the Whangarei County Council from 19CG to 1908, a member of the old North Auckland Hospital Board and chairman of the Whangarei District Board from its inception in 1914 until 1917. He was the oldest living elder of the Whangarei Presbyterian Church. He was a very old Freemason and was a foundation member and P.M. of Lodge Whangarei No. 102. He was also a life member of the Whangarei Royal Arch Chapter. He played his last game of bowls on the Whangarei green ten days ago and shortly afterwards he contracted measles. Complications set in and death was due to congestion of the lungs. Shortly after taking over the Kauri farm, Mr. McKenzie married Jessie, the daughter of Mr. Hugh McKenzie, who also was born in Nova Scotia, and who survives him.
