i NEW ZEALAND VICTORY. TAKES THE TASMAN CUP. O. KAY BEATS S. TOLHURST. MELBOURNE, September 1. The international golf match between New Zealand and Australia for the Tasman Cup was played to-day. The teams were not selected until the last moment owing to the illness of prominent players. Mrs. J. C. Templer (New Zealand) played although she was far from well. In the singles Miss Susie Tolhurst (Victoria) lost to Miss Oliver Kay, 1 up; Mies 0. Lefebvre (New South Wales) defeated Miss B. Gaisford (New Zealand), 1 up; Mies Mona MacLeod defeated Mrs. H. Dodgshuu (New Zealand), 3 and 2; Miss Joan Hammond (New South Wales) defeated Mrs. Tenrnler, 4 and 2. Australia, three games, six points; New Zealand, one game, two points. Miss Tolhurst wae three down to Miss Kay after 10 holes, but won three holes in succession. The game was still all square at the fifteenth. Miss Kay won on the last green. The approximate figures were: Miss Kay 79, Miss Tolhurst 81. Miss Lefebvre was three down at the turn, but put up a great fight to defeat Miss Gaisfo.d on the last green. " The foursomes in the afternoon were sensational as Misses Tolhurst, MacLeod and Hammond were compelled to withdraw owing to illness. Miss Kay and Miss Gaisford defeated Miss Lefebvre and Mrs. Russell, 2 and 1. This was the only foursome played, making the totals three matches to New Zealand and three to Australia. On a count back of the holes Australia had eight holes in the singles and New Zealand one. New Zealand had 12 in the foursomes (one walk over counting as a win by 10 and 8). New Zealand thus won the Tasman Cup.

HAROLD LUSK WINS

FRYER LOSES ANOTHER FINAL. AMON BEATS GREENBANK IN CUP. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") ROTORUA, Friday. The Rotorua golf championship final was resumed thie afternoon, between Harold Lusk (Auckland) and Frank Fryer (Napier), the former being *1 up at the end of the morning round. At the nineteenth Fryer drove to the left of the fairway, Lusk having the advantage. Fryer was short with his approach, also with putts. Lusk over-ran the pin by ten feet, but went out with his second, taking the hole 4—5. (Lusk 5 up). The twentieth saw Lusk in the left bunker from his drive, but he chipped out well. Fryer heeled his tee shot to the edge of the rough, .played a short eecond, and took two putte to halve in fours. Lusk at the twenty-first, pulled his drive down the bank on the left, whilst Fryer reached the green, and, taking two putte, won the hole 3 —l. (Lusk 4 up). The twenty-second eaw the ex-Rugby representative further reduce his opponent's lead. Luek got olf the line with his drive, with Fryer 50 yards beyond. The latter played a beautiful second to the green, winning in 4 —5 (Lusk 3 up). At the twenty-third Lusk found the bank of the creek from the tee, but made a great recovery, reaching the edge of the green in three. Fryer had an excellent drive, losing this advantage by playing a poor second, the hole being halved in fives. Fryer drove nicely on to the green of the twenty-fourth, but Lusk had the advantage. Fryer failed with two putte, the Auckland player taking the hole, 3 —4. (Lusk 4 up). The twenty-fifth saw both players away with good drives and seconds, but Fryer struck trouble in the bunker to the right of the green, failing to recover. (Lusk 5 up). Both players made good drives at the twenty-sixth, and reached the green with their seconds, Fryer having 75 feet advantage. The hole was halved in fours. The twenty-seventh saw Fryer drive into the same hot mud pool as he had done during the morning round, the ex-New Zealand' cricket representative taking the hole 3 —6, making him 6 up. The twenty-eighth and twenty-ninth were halved in fives, whilst the thirtieth was won 'by Fryer, 4 —5. (Luek 5 up). The gome ended at the thirty-first, taken by Luek, who thus won the match, &-5. The Thermal Cup final between M. Amon (Bulls) and W. Greenbank (Akarana) was evenly contested, the former player being 1 up at the end of the morning round. Play continued even during the second round, the players being all square at the thirty-fifth. Amon wivn the thirty-sixth, 4—5, and the match 1 up. This contest was on handicap, Amon (13) and Greenbank (7). At the termination of play the prizes were distributed by Mrs. Hay, wife of the president of the Rotorua Golf Club. Messrs. Lusk and Fryer replying on behalf of the visitors. Besides winning the New Zealand amateur championship at Christchur-ch in 1910, Harold Lusk represented New Zealand at cricket in 1906 and 1910. Frank Fryer w-as an AH Black ~on the Rugby tour of Australia in 1907 (and a prolific scorer), besides playing in a Test against the Anglo Welshmen at Wellington in 1908. Fryer, .by the way, also contested the 1932 final, when George Tallis (Titirangi) was the victor.
