TAURANGA. Mrs. C. Steedman held a bridge party on Monday evening. Her dress was of black crepe de chine relieved with white. 1 The guests were: Mesdames Ross-Smith, Keith, Page, Misses Clarice Mountforfc, Dorothy Armitage, Alison Bradmorc, Olive Armitage, Marjory Sanders. Mrs. Cockburn-Hood also gave a party, the gueete being Mesdamee Halliday, J. Jordan, S. Doughty, E. Carr, Corrigan, A. Tudehope, W. J. Baigent, McCara, Misses J. Evans, Margaret Beale, McLeod. A delightful bridge afternoon wa3 given at "The Willows" by Mrs. McCara. The guests were: Mesdames D. V. Ivory, L. Smith, Cockburn-Hood, D. Hanna, G. L. Cook, Glacken, Vingoe, Bruce Beale, A. Tudehope, D. V. Corrigan, F. W. Meikle, Halliday, Simmonde, Bartleet, and Misses Marjory Hawk, Gavcy, Douglas, Poulton, L. Hawk, McLeod. Mies Lois Hawk entertained a number of her friends at bridge on Wednesday evening at "The Willows." The Ihostees received in black satin beaute. The gueete were: Meedames Ross-Smit'h v Cockburn-Hood, T. Hall, D. V. Ivory, M. Monroe, Tourner, W. H. Reid, B. S. Brooks, E. Carr, Ross-Clark, B. Beale, J. I<\ R. Wallace, McCara, McDougal, Robbins, Bartleet, Glacken, Misses Margaret Beale, Etta Cairns, Olive Armitage, Marjory Hawk, McLeod, Douglas, Gwen Hardy, N. Bartleet, J. Evans, Dorothy Armitage, Alison Bradmore, Doreen Bartleet. The lirst prize was won by Mrs. W. H. Reid. Mrs. Burns, of Dunedin, is spending a holiday at Tauranga as the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Alan Buxton. Mrs. H. P. Butts is on a visit to Rotorua. Mrs. Macfarlane, of Auckland, is spending a holiday in Tauranga with Mre. E. Carr, Tenth Avenue. "WHANGAREI. A jolly air obtained in the medical ward at tho Whangarei District Hospital on Thursday night, for tho periodical visit of Madame- Brainsby's concert party. Several patients from other wards also attended. Items were: Songs, Miss Jessie. MacKay and Madame Brainsby; trios, Miss MacKay, Mrs. G. Woolley, and Madame Brainsby; recitations, Mrs. Griffin; violin solo, Madame Rolfe-Smith; pianoforte duet, Madame Rolfe-Smith and Mrs. G. Woolley. The artists are indebted to Miss Drummond and Mr. G. Woolley for the loan of cars.

Miss M. Bauman, formerly of Whangarei, and now of To Awamutu, has been visiting friends in Whangarei and Hikurangi. Miss A. Higginson, of the staff of the Hamilton East School, who has been spending the term holidays _ with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Higginson, of Hospital Road, has returned to Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Parke Pittar left by car on Thursday to attend the golf tourney, at Rotorua. Miss Dulcie WallingJones and her mother, who have been spending a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Grant, Donald Street, returned during the week to their home at Auckland. Mrs. R. T. Tudehope left by the express on Wednesday to spend a few days in Auckland. A most successful private party was "iven by Mrs. Harold Cotter at the Commercial Cafe. Mr. and Mrs. Cotter, who have been residents in Kamo Road for tho past three months, are returning to their seaside residence at McGregor's Bay, and, prior to their departure, entertained their friends. The bridge prize went to Mesdames H. N. Geissler and Boult and Dr. H. A. Good. Supper and refreshments were served in an adjoining room. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Morrish, Goodwin, A. Armstrong, F. Crosby, Clayton-Thorne, Gus MacKay, Day, J. McKay, R. Mitchell, R. Crane, Geissler, Laurie, Orr, Hall, Miles Young, G. W. Bennett, H. A. Good, Beere, Clinton Jones, Boult, A. R. Benjamin, J. G. Campbell, Woolley, and Misses V. Campbell and P. Northover. MORRINSVILLE. A well attended dance, organised by the Tauhei School Committee, was held in tho Tauhei Hall on Wednesday evening. The schools funds have been considerably augmented as a result of the effort. The winners of the Monte Carlo dance were Mr. Shaw and Miss Shaw, and of the balloon danco Mr. L. Everett and Miss Shaw.
