MERCANTILE AUXILIARY.

The girls of the Mercantile Auxiliary Club last evening extended the courtesies of their organisation to the visiting Australian Squadron, when an At Home was tendered to about twenty officers from the Canberra and Australia. Subdued lighting effects, tall vases of ranunculi, daffodils, and anemone, with bowls of greener- made attractive decorations, whilst f{» crackling log fires added a cheery note to a ecene already gay with the pretty frocks of the dancers. At one end of the room were large paintings of the King and Queen, round which were draped the Union Jack with the Australian and New Zealand Ensign. Musical selections were rendered as the guests were arriving, the pro-m-ammo opening with the National Anthem, followed by a few words of welcome. The president of the club, Mrs M. Ifwereen, wearing a frock of black pearl crepe, with orchid epray, and the vice-president, Miss E. Jennings, who wore a gown of pale grey georgette, received the guests. Monologues by Miss Edna Thomas, and songs by Miss Jean Reynolds were greatly enjoyed.
