Compensation for Reduced Acreage. PROVINCES AT VARIANCE. (Received 1.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, August 31. The Prairio wheat growers have proposed to the Government that the reduced acreage necessary to carry out the wheat quota agreement be compensated for by a tax 011 flour for domestic use. The revenue thus raised would bo paid to farmers pro rata on an acreage basis. Non-wheat growing provinces are preparing protests 011 the ground that the proposed tax would materially increase the prices of bread.
