GOLF AT ROTORUA.
TWO VETERANS SURVIVE. EUSK AND FRYER IN FINAL. AMON MEETS GREENBANK IX CUP. (Br Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") ROTORUA, Thursday. Two veteran players, H. B. Lusk and F. Fryer, survived the semi-finals of the Rotorua golf championship this afternoon against the youthful players, A. B. BarnesGraham and M. Moore, respectively. Lusk continued to play the fine golf which has marked his play throughout the tournament and had another easy victory, but the Fryer-Moore match was a much more evenly-contested game and one that provided a series of thrills over the last few holes. As in his other games. Moore, the Te Tahi scratch player, displayed patches of brilliancy, but at times was just a little over confident, while Fryer, the runner-up in the championship last year, had just the little bit of luck that makes the difference between defeat and victory. For instance, ho holed a mashie approach at the eleventh for a 3 to regain a lead of 3 up, which he had established at the turn. At the sixteenth, the hole across the edge of the lake, Moorp had reduced the margi.i tc 1 down. Both played brilliant seconds to this hole. Moore winning by sinking an ISin putt after his opponent had missed one- a foot longer. At the next Moore was only a couple of yards from the pin, but was short with his putt, which would have squared the game. He then hit a bad tee shot at the final hole, slicing into the trees, and when his third shot got foul of the bunker and his opponent was nicely on the green, Moore picked up. J. S. Barnes-Graham, another member of the Gisborne family—there were four of them competing in the tournament, father and three sons —combined well with Carver in a foursome medal. The pair were round in 71, a net score of 65. Results:— Rotorua Championship. Semi-finals. H. B. Lusk (Auckland) beat A. B. Barnes-Graham (Gisborne), 5 and 4. F. C. Frver (Napier), beat M. Moore (Te Tahi),*2 up. The Thermal Cup. Semi-finals. W. Greenbank, 7 (Akarana), beat R. C. Smith. 5 (Rotorua), 2 and 1. M. Anion, 13 (Bulls), beat W. B. Lusk, 10 (Auckland), at the nineteenth.
