OBJECTION RAISED.
New Zealand Plan for License Of Exports. DISCUSSION AT BANFF. BANFF, August 27. The New Zealand delegates' plan for licensing exports, and the suggestion that imports might also be placed under control in future, were examined again by a round table group at the Conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations on Friday. One New Zealand member pressed the idea of eliminating chaotic and wasteful production by determining in advance the market available and buying without tariff barriers goods from the country for which exports are made. Obstacles were presented by other delegates, who argued that in industrialised countries it would be more difficult to license and control exports, especially where a nation is trying to push the sale of its goods in all the corners of the earth. It was stated that an attempt by the Governments to establish quotas might end in a worse position than at present. A British delegate said the depression had been prolonged by Government interference with natural laws. ■ A suggestion that the 1935 conference - of the institute be held on board a liner ■ cruising on the Pacific Ocean was made by an Australian delegate. Many proposals were advanced with the basic idea of focusing the discussions of the conference more concretely in future.
