TOO MANY TEACHERS.
"DEPARTMENT IN A MUDDLE." BOARD CHAIRMAN'S ATTACK. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUXEDIN, this day. The chairman of the Otago Education Board, Mr. J. Wallace, at a meeting of the board, said the Department of Education had got the country into a muddle through training too many teachers and was now endeavouring to restrict boards to an inadequate rationing scheme.
"I think the Department would be well advised if it agreed to step down from the'high and mighty attitude it has taken up," added the chair/han. "1 am satisfied that had Mr. Masters been in the country the Department would have stepped down. He is not above confessing a mistake if a mistake has been made. It is useless for us to approach the acting-Minister when the Department states that the Minister has decided so and so. Probably when Mr. Masters returns this wrong, for wrong it undoubtedly is, will be righted."
