COURSES PROVE DIFFICULT.

THE PROSPEHITY MEDAL.

A southerly •wind, and for the most part fairly heavy fairways, affected" the golf on Saturday, and on the whole the cards which won the competitions were not brilliant. At Glendowie C. Heald headed the field in the third round of the Howey Walker Cup, and also won the trophy presented by Mr. j. H. Hall. In returning a card of all square at Akarana, B. Shorter won the President's trophy ior the second year in succession. At Waitemata cards of 5 down were good enough to lead in the second round of the Duder Cup. Only one competitor, C. I. Nathan, could better the scratch score of the course at Middlemore, in the qualifying round of the George Cup (medal). There were better performances at Titirangi in the first: round of the Self Cup, R. B. Carr recording the best performance with a net 73. The consistent Young was runner-up with a net 74. The finals .of the Ballin Cup produced two keen contests, which ended on the 18th green. E. G. Tallis and L.?J. Williamson are the finalists. A-four-ball at Pupuke resulted fn a tie, two up being a comparatively nodest card for this course. At Maungakiekie D. R. Garrard had the best performance in a bogey contest, with a card of 1 down. One of the best performances of the day was L. Harrison's net GS at North Shore.

AUCKLAND CLUB.

The qualifying round for the medal competition was played in conjunction with the Prosperity Week medal match by members of the Auckland Golf Club at Middlemore on Saturday. Ninety-two : players took part.' A southerly wind was blowing and conditions were not easy. A well-played four at the eighteenth then gave Mrs. Henderson and Miss Ballantyne the hole and the match.

AEARANA CLUB,

The bogey competition for the president's tropliy' was won by Bert Shorter,- who finished all 'square. He was in receipt of 11 strokes. The next best cards were: W. Greenbank, 1 down ; K. Huddlcston, - down; L. J. Minogue, 2 down; F. Booth, 3 down; H V. Ward, 4 down; A. J. Patefson, 4 down ; H. Cullen, 4 down; N. :Slinps<>Eij 4; down ; A. Wymess, 4 down ; L. L Rose. 5 down ; and G." L.' Bayly, 5 down. The final of the Swanson Cup over 36 holes was played during the week-end between H. R. Tyler (13) and G. Blss (7). The latter won a great fight on the thirtyeighth green.

A four-ball best ball competition for Mr. .T. W. Williamson's trophy was played at Pupuke, resulting in a tie between A. Stenlienson and M. Close arid C. Jaggs and C.- Thomas,-'with cards of 2 up. The next; best were : R. Johnston and F. L. Bond, 1 up; G. Gooding and M. Wilson, all square; H. Gould hnd A. Burnett, 1 down. In the third round of the captain's prize K. Hume beat W. Taylor, 8 and 6. In the play-off for the Rennie trophy. J. E. Palmer and J. T. McCorkindale. were successful, returning ii card of 3 up.
