NEW BOAT HARBOUR.
WORK AT ONEHUNGA. EMPLOYMENT DURING WINTER. "The work will mean 'employment for an additional 100 men throughout the i winter, the appearance of the waterfront will bo greatly improved, boat owner.3 will have a good harbour and there will be a reserve," said Mr. IT. E. Mackenzie at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board when the work of completing the boat harbour at Onehunga was under discussion. The Manuka u Harbour Committee stated that it was of the opinion that the Oneliuuga Borough Council had been asked by the board to carry out more work than could reasonably be expected of it. The committee therefore recommended: (1) That provided the council would undertake to remove tho rock which at present existed in the boat harbour by continuous work and placed the material on the present reef the board would give its consent to the work of closing Gcddes Basin being proceeded with; (2) that in the opinion of the committee tho extension of the protection wall should be carried to the full 600 ft as shown in the plan submitted by the harbourmaster and engineer. The committee considered that it was the duty of the board to assist in the completion of the wall and it was suggested that, should the council be prepared to complete the wall, the board should contribute the sum of £350 towards the cost. In moving the adoption of the report, Mr. Mackenzie said that it had to be remembered that the board had spent £7000 for boat harbours in the Waitomata. Mr. S. Vella said he felt sure the work would meet the requirements' of yachtsmen. and that everyone concerned would be satisfied.
The recommendations wore approved.
