BUSINESS RATHER BETTER. COLONIAL SUGARS IMPROVE. Business 011 the local Stock Exchange improved yesterday afternoon. A good list of sales was finalised at the last call, and a fresh lot was put through at the first call this morning. There were few changes iu the banking section, and New Zealand.?, after fresh business at £2 7/9, were still asked for at that figure. New Zealand Insurances again attracted interest, but within rigid limits, only a penny separating buyer and seller. Goldsbrough, Morts were quoted ex dividend, with buyers at £1 0/. Donaghy's Rope was again on offer at £2 0/3, bringing in a buyer at £1 17/0. Colonial Sugars were firmer, with buyers at £57 and no sellers forthcoming. In the mining section Alexanders again went higher, and after a sale at 18/ buyers still offered that figure, while holders moved up to 19/3. Blackwatcrs, too, were firm, with buyers at £1 4/9, and sellers holding off. Waihis showed a tendency to case, being again on offer at £1 1/10. Government stocks were unchanged. Quiet Market at Noon. At a quiet noon call no sales were made, but several were reported, showing a general steadiness in values. There was a slight easing in offers for Commercials of Australia and Bank of New Zealands, but sellers held firm. A sale of New Zealand and River Plate, the first for a considerable time, showed a reduction of 5/. The morning rise of Alexander Mines was confirmed by further business at the higher level, and there were more buyers at the same figures, with holders 1/ above. SALES COMPLETED. Last Sale.
