WORK FOR TEACHERS.
• CRITICISM OF DEPARTMENT. LEGAL OR OTHERWISE. (By Tclesraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN; this day. Criticism of the Education Department's administration of rationing schemes for giving work to unemployed teachers was made at a meeting of the Education Board, it being stated that they were not being administered to the benefit of the general body of unemployed teachers. The chairman, Mr. J. Wallace, said he noticed that the Auckland Board had used up all its allowance. He did not ttink the Minister of Education held the same view as the Department. The llinkter held that the scheme was to assist unemployed teachers, and it did not matter very much whether the positions filled were legal positions or not, but the Department was striving to keep the engagement of unemployed teachers confined to legal positions. The was kindly disposed towards the method of the'Otago Board when It.was explained to him in Wellington. Another member remarked that the Jjlinister seemed to be overruled by the J^epartment.
