"MIRACLE TUBE."

HOW THE DUMB MAY SPEAK. LONDON, May 25. A miracle tube that will enable the .lumb to speak was described at a meeting of the Royal Society. Discovered accidentally while Western Electric technicians were experimenting with talkie apparatus, it consists of a soundbox containing a delicate metal reed, assisted in soma instances by bellows.

The sound thus generated enters the mouth through a rubber tube and is modulated into speech by the action of the mouth and throat in the ordinary way. Within four days, one dumb man was able to speak so distinctly that he was heard perfectly when telephoning from London to Lancashire.
