STABLE AND TRACK NOTES. HALF-BROTHER TO GOOD HORSE. Aube, who raced at Woodville on Saturday, running' unplaced in the Hopeful Stakes, is a two-year-old half-brother to that good horse Toxeuma, being by Arausio out of Te Au'paki. He is trained for Mr. F. Orniond by W. McKinnon. STEADILY IMPROVING. Although Tarporley failed to. get into the money in his'two starts at Te Rapa, the racing he had there has improved him considerably. He is now hitting out more freely than he has done for some time, and, being a good-winded horse, and partial to soft going, he is more than a possibility in the Cornwall Handicap. This horse has previously run good races over a middle distance, and only for the not that he had to be stopped in his preparation, owing to soreness, his record would have been much better. HAS THE BREEDING. One of the Hopeful Stakes candidates at Woodville on Saturday belongs to a vary good family. This is,Te Kangitumau, a three-year-old, gelding by Arausio from Maropa, trained by K. E. Hatch for Mr. A. A. Cameron. His dam, Maropa, is by Martian from Grand Opera, by Gipsy Giand— lima, by.. Stepniak". " Maropa is a sister to those ■ good horses Soldiers Chorus, Tannhauser, Cherubini and Rossini, while tlie . grandam- Urria left Obsono, a. C.J.O. ■ Stewards winner. lima was also sister to Indian Queen, dam of King Billy,. Aboriginal and Maori King. Few maidens have better breeding" recommendations than Te Rangitumau.

A THOROUGH PREPARATION. Billy Boy. has been schooled twice at Eilerslie during the past week, shaping attractively on both occasions. Last Tuesday morning he negotiated five flights of hurdles, jumping in first-rate style, while on Saturday he gave a perfect exhibition over a round of the steeplechase course. He pulled up well, and there will be no doubt regarding his condition when hi: goes to the post for his Great Northern engagement, for he has done a thorough preparation, and has never looked bettc.. He is one of the best stayers engaged in the Great Northerns, and as he is a proved galloper in heavy ground he looks certain to be in the money in both events. GOOD SCHOOLING EFFORT. The two stablemates, Make Up and Landmark, were responsible for a good school over four hurdles on the course pr.epfii" at Elleiislie last Saturday, morning. They were together practidally all the way, Make. Up giving the better display of jumping, though Landmark fenced in a very, satisfactory manner, considering it was his 'first attempt over hurdles since his return from Australia some months ago. Both these horses will contest the Great Northern Hurdles and Steeples and should'again give',a good account'of themselves, though Make Up, who is more forward than his mate, and has had some recent racing over fences, appeals as the better of the pair.

STABLEMATES SCHOOL. The two hack hurdle candidates Patutahi and Wee Pat were responsible for a most pleasing display over the battens at Ellersiie on Saturday morning, both fencing with any amount of dash. Patutain, wlio is now approaching his best condition, will contest the Penrose Hurdles on Saturday, and AVee Pat will be seen out in similar events on the last two clays of the meeting. The latter has had no jumping experience in public, but has uccn showing considerable promise in her schooling tasks, displaying marked promise for a novice. She has plenty of speed, and ivhen raced on the fiat earlier gave evidence of staying, iheretore, she must have more than an outside chaucc in her engagements at the B^eting. RETURNING TO FAVOUR. On Saturday morning the Givat Northern Hurdle candidate Prince of I Orange gave a finished display 'Over six j flights oi schooling hurdles in the centre ot the course, and his ett'ort is sure to gain him additional support in the big hurdle race next Saturday. Although he tailed to show his true form at the '±e Kuiti meeting at To Kapa recently, his successes earlier in the season proved him to be <;ne of the most promising hurdlers seen out J for some time. 'Hie going at Te Rupa i probably may have had some effect on his I showing there, for several other horses I who have proved themselves under heavy track conditions were unable to handle it. Judged on his former running and present lacing condition, he is likely ro beat more ; than beats him next Saturday. MAY NEED A RACXE. Taneriri, who , claims an engagement in the Cornwall Handicap, has come ou very fast during the last few weeks, but it is some time since he had a race, and it is doubtful if lie will be at his bast until he has had another outing in public. He 'is working more soundly than he has doue for some time and appears to be improving with every gallop. Like His half-brothe-., Manawhenua, this horse is a proved galloper in heavy going and he should not be long in picking up a stake. Even though he may not get into tha- money i;i the Cornwall Handicap the race is xiire to do him a lo.t of good. A couple of seasons ago lie won the King George Handicap and finished second to Valroe in the Yovk Handicap at the Great Northern meeting. He is engaged in these races at'the forthcoming meeting.

GOING PARTICULARLY WELL. Of the Cornwall Handicap candidates at Ellerslie nothing has been pleasing more than Manawheniia. who has come through a solid preparation and is now in bettor fettle than he has been since -\ he returned from Australia. This horse" has been responsible for several attractive gallops during the last fortnight, and .as lie is a genuine horse and usually runs up lo his trials in a race he is sure to be hard to beat in the big flat event next Saturday He ran two excellent races at the last meeting at Ellerslie, finishing second in the Easter Handicap to Golden Wings and third to Master Briefly and Eager Rose in the Autumn Handicap, one mile and a half. In the latter event he carried 8 11. and has only 21b more in the Cornwall Handicap. Though he handles all classes of going well, he U particularly pood in soft ground, and he is sure to strike that going at the Great Northern fixture.
