SMALL FARMS PLAN.
APPLICANTS to inspect sites A donation from the Auckland Civic League was received by the New Zealand Smallholders' League at' last evening's weekly meeting in appreciation of the latter body's inclusion of women in its work of facilitating settlement under the Government's small farms plan. The meeting decided to organise parties of unemployed . applicants to inspect blocks of suitable land, beginnings with a visit a week hence to Waiuku. Plans of the standard public works cottage being provided for selectors examined, and the general opinion expressed that a wider range as to si?e and ground plan would be an advantage to meet varying needs and family sizes. The chairman stated that much greater departmental activity was now evident, particularly with regard to sectiohs_ voluntarily nominated and where snhdivisional work was not involved. While the Department of Agriculture was' continuing the completion of the work already in its hands, the new applications were being received by the Department of Lands in the various districts. ' Mr. "A. W. Manning, of Avondale, was appointed Dominion secretary.
